The most cultural experience that has impacted me what when we were at La Iguana Chocolate. I really learned a lot from Jorge and his family. I thought that their farm was a separate business from their lives. The cacao farm IS their life.
La Iguana Chocolate has taught me that when you love something, you put all you have into it. The farm is everything to them. It made me realize that not everybody can have a day off if they want to eat and live. There are many different countries (and even parts of the United States) where people will continually work day and night. After sitting at my desk for four hours of checking people in, I feel like I deserve a little break. I now realize that I definitely do not need a break, after doing some of the work that the La Iguana Familia does on a daily basis. They definitely do deserve one. The whole experience of how they live has opened my eyes to see that I live in a very fortunate place and that I need to respect la tierra (the earth) more.
