The most significant cultural experience I have had so far on this trip has been the monk chat. Before the Monk chat I knew not much about Buddhism or the daily life of a Monk. Learning the guidelines for practicing Buddhism has really inspired me to follow them. Comparing how people in Thailand treat each other compared to back home, I can see more compassion in Thailand. I like that they call Buddhism a philosophy and not a religion. I believe that if all religions were called philosophies then there would be less violence and differences.
The Monk Chat opened my eyes to a better way to view the world. Learning that everyone suffers one way or the other helped me see that everyone is similar. I will definitely practice mediation more. Learning that not everything is forever has taught me to live life to the fullest and not harbour negativity/suffering in my life.
