There were many reasons for wanting to travel to Thailand as a volunteer, first and foremost to leave an impact outside my very own community, but that’s the same reason we all wanted to come.
Of course I love serving others and I adore elephants and I’ve never been out of the country let alone across the world, but there was a deeper reason for wanting to come. My whole life has been pretty stable and unchanging. I have lived in the same house my whole life, never transferred schools, had the same group of friends since I was 5 years old, never experienced death, and the list goes on to describe my very uneventful life.
This trip to Thailand was the first opportunity I have had to go outside my comfort zone and really challenge myself. I’m a pretty shy person as it is and going across the world as a volunteer with a bunch of strangers was very exciting yet terrifying which was intriguing. This was a chance of a lifetime to volunteer and have the opportunity to truly find myself away from my very monotone lifestyle. So far it’s been wonderful and I feel myself pushing outside my normal boundaries by experiencing new things which is amazing. I’m very happy with my decision to travel to Thailand to volunteer 🙂
